Pathways, Inc. was founded by a group of Greenwich families in 1981 who were concerned about the lack of housing and services for their family members who suffered from severe mental illness. At this time, state psychiatric institutions were discharging many patients with severe mental illness back into the community. These communities were not equipped to meet the needs of the treatment and rehabilitation for these patients.
